WHAT IS SMART GROWTH AND WHY IS IT IMPORTANT TO NORTHWEST ARKANSAS?
“Smart Growth” covers a range of development and conservation strategies that help protect our health and natural environment and make our communities more attractive, economically stronger, and more socially diverse (US EPA). As we continue to see exponential growth and development in the area, a vision is needed at a regional level to ensure long-term drinking water supplies and infrastructure (natural and urban) are resilient, protected and fully functioning for future generations. Northwest Arkansas is home to Beaver Lake, the drinking water source for 1 in 5 Arkansans, making it even more important for the area to grow with Smart Growth principles in mind.
WHO SHOULD ATTEND THESE FORUMS?
All are welcome to attend these public forums. We encourage city, county and community planners to attend, design and engineering professionals, government staff, and encourage water professionals to attend.
WHAT WILL ATTENDEES TAKE AWAY FROM THESE FORUMS?
Attendees will participate in conversations on various topics of Smart Growth principles that may apply to Northwest Arkansas, gain tools for advancing Smart Growth at any scale, learn about successful case studies, network with others, and so much more!
